Current Projects
BICCIAB have been successful with three projects to stimulate training demand.
Increasing female participation in the plumbing industry - The aim of the project is to have a group of women complete a prevocational program and then go on to obtain employment as an apprentice in the plumbing industry. The women will be supported by a mentor who has completed a plumbing apprenticeship and has work/life experience on the job. Training and assistance will also be provided to the employers who take on one of the female graduates.
Increasing workers access to RPL - The purpose of this project is to provide a mechanism that will increase the number of building and construction workers who have a recognised trade skill qualification. The target audience will be existing workers, who have been working on building sites in a trade or allied occupation without formal recognition of their trade skills and knowledge. The RPL process will involve identifying the gap in the skills required for the participant to receive formal recognition in their current occupation and assist them to complete the required steps to achieve the accredited qualification.
Implementing ‘preapprenticeship’ style training options for new entrants to the Civil Construction Industry - The project will provide Certificate II training for entry level workers with the advantage of multiple exit points – into paid employment in the industry or to ongoing apprenticeship training as part of the RII09 Resources and Infrastructure Training Package.
